Recommendations approved in toto

The State Cabinet which met on Wednesday approved in toto a new package recommended by a Cabinet Sub committee headed by the Finance Minister K. Rosaiah. The State Government claimed that this is the biggest package ever offered in the country.
Under this package, the compensation payable to 750 affected families from whom 5500 acres was acquired for the 140 km stretch of Phase I of the ORR project will be Rs. 1170 cores a hike of Rs. 1000 crores. For another 440 acres acquired in a separate 24 km stretch, Rs. 80 crores is being set aside. Families of the displaced by the ORR project will get land to land compensation apart from more money on account of loss.
The Minister for Information Mohd. Ali Shabbir said that the cash compensation for agri lands had been doubled by fixing a minimum of Rs. 8 lakhs an acre. If a family loss 80 per cent of its land, it will get a 400 sq.yard developed plot for each acre loss subject to a ceiling of 1200 sq.yards. The package will now allow ex gratia payment of Rs. 1.5 lakhs an acre of encroached land and those who lost houses will get a 259 sq.yard plot and house sites. The ORR project director Piyush Kumar said plots offered to the oustees would be developed in over 700 acres of land acquired at a cost of Rs. 210 crores.
