Hyderabad, December 5, 2006The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh while speaking at the golden jubilee of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) has expressed concern over the low productivity of investment locked up in the Public Sector Undertakings. He called for unlocking of the past investments for the benefit of the country.
He said that it was a high time to enter into public private partnership and enable the public sector build on core competencies. He cited an example that the Indian Railways did a positive turnaround after inviting private investments and there was need to tone up the management of other PSUs including Food Corporation and oil companies to strengthen.
He said that the Centre was opening new institutions under 'Vocational Education Mission' to produce skilled personnel as the industrial sector was facing huge skill shortage even at the current rates of growth. The institutions would be established at various levels of knowledge with particular emphasis on a vocational education mission.
