Rs. 11,000 as minimum pay in Railways

Hyderabad, December 30, 2006

The National Federation of Indian Railways (NFIR) has urged the VI Pay Commission to revise the minimum scale in the railways to Rs. 11,000.

A memorandum to the Commission to this effect in addition to various improvements in the service conditions and salary structures was submitted. NFIR general secretary M. Raghavaiah speaking at the zonal conference of the South Central Railways Employees Sangh (SCRES) on Saturday disclosed the same. Following the representations from the employees, NFIR had taken up an exercise to elicit the views and demands from all zones in order to put forth them in the supplementary memorandum to be submitted to the Pay Commission. Among their demands was separation of technical staff from artisans for re-designation as supervisors, special technical allowance to upgrade their skills, better promotional prospects, 30 per cent risk allowance etc.
