Election Commission serves notice to Chief Minister

Violation of Election Code

Hyderabad, December 3, 2006

The Election Commission (EC) just before one day for the Karimnagar and Bobbili by polls has sent a notice to the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy for alleged violation of Election Code.

Election Commission Secretary Tapas Kumar said that the Chief Minister's statement by promising a road during the campaign at Mallapur in the Karimnagar Lok Sabha Constituency comes under the Election Code and he said that it was against the provisions of Para VII pertaining to the ruling party in the model code of conduct.

In response to the notice, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy maintained that he have not announced any financial grants in any form and therefore there was no violation of Election Code. He said that it was common for some people to ask their elected representatives to get certain things done. The Chief Minister clarified that since the election process is on, he only told them to represent the issue to their MLA later so that he could do the needful.
