Asks submission of records pertaining to appointment of Commission
Hyderabad, December 28, 2006
A two-member bench of the AP High Court comprising Justice GS Singhvi and Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy on Thursday directed the State Government to produce all records pertaining to the appointment of Rangachari Commission to probe the financial dealings of Margadarsi Financers. The direction was given in response to the petition filed by Margadarsi Financers represented by Ramoji Rao seeking suspension of the probe panel. The petitioners alleged that the Government’s action was an act of political vendetta against them.
During the course of arguments, the Bench wanted to know the specific rights of the petitioners that were infringed upon. It sought evidence to show that the right of freedom of press was under attack. The Bench has not accepted the alleged publications in the newspaper pertaining to alleged statements, but wanted more authenticity. The Bench passed various comments about the state of affairs when different parties run the successive Governments and also about the legal sanctity of the one-man committee.
