Hyderabad, December 24, 2006

The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday made it clear that the Government would not acquire land allotted to the poor, backward, SCs and STs but said that only the assigned lands which is under the control of bigwigs would be resumed.

In an open letter to the people, he said that the eight-member committee headed by the Minister for Urban Development, Koneru Ranga Rao had already submitted a report to the Government and several important decisions would be taken on December 28 based on the report. He said that the Government was committed to acquire the assigned lands under the occupation of others and redistribute them to the people as well as use it for public purpose. He said that nearly 10 lakh acres of assigned lands is currently in the hands of landlords and suggested them to handover the lands to the Government within 90 days.
