Hyderabad, December 22, 2006The State Government has accorded sanction to launch prosecution against Editor of Eeendu daily Ramojirao for news item published in the daily against the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy in last July.
A GO was issued on December 18 giving permission under Section 199 (4) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 to the Special Public Prosecutor to file a complaint and to conduct prosecution in a court of competent jurisdiction. It has appointed senior advocate S. Satyanayana Prasad Special Public Prosecutor for the said purpose. The order noted that the news item against the Home Minister published on July 30 this year was highly defamatory in nature. The prosecution was ordered against Rao following a complaint to the Chief Minister by the Home Minister along with a clipping of the news item on September 12. Following the complaint, the Government ordered an enquiry by DIG Registration and Stamps and in his report, he had observed that no Minister had personally come to the registration office to get registration of land at Allapuir as alleged in the newspaper report.
