BJP floor leader Kishan Reddy resigns

Speaker remarks on him leads to resignation

Hyderabad, December 21, 2006

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) floor leader G. Kishan Reddy hurt by an observation by the Speaker KR Suresh Reddy on ‘minimum manners’ provoked him to tender his resignation as MLA on Thursday. When Kishan Reddy wanted to pose a supplementary to Minister P. Lakshmaiah on Inchampalli, T. Devender Goud and N. Narasimhulu also sought clarifications. When the Speaker asked any one of them to speak, Kishan Reddy insisted on his turn, he asked the BJP leader to show minimum manners to the Chair.

After a while, he walked out of the house and spoke to media of his decision to resign. The Speaker, Suresh Reddy said that his observation was general in nature and applicable to all members of the House and not aimed at an individual member.
