Non-locals will be repatriated by next June-end
Officials asked to collect details on prescribed form by January end
Hyderabad, December 20, 2006
The State Government gave a commitment in the Assembly on Wednesday that all non-locals from Hyderabad and other zones would be repatriated by the end of June next year. The TRS staged a walkout demanding a resolution favouring separate Telangana. The Rural Development Minister D. Srinivas said all Government departments had been asked to collect details in a prescribed form by January end and the repatriation by the end of June appeared to be possible since non-locals now numbered only 58,000 as unofficially assessed.
Referring to the criticism that some head of departments at the Secretariat were not furnishing the data, the Minister appealed the officers to extend cooperation in making the exercise a success and emulate the Police and School Education Departments, which had completed the job. He warned the officials who are refusing to cooperate of punishment.
Meanwhile, the TRS members T. Harish Rao and N. Narasimha Reddy said that Telangana people would get justice only in a separate State and wanted a resolution to be adopted for which the Minister refused on the ground that the House was debating on the GO 610. They walked out in protest against the Minister’s announcement.
