Bill gives more powers for Government to handle Assigned lands in the state
Hyderabad, December 19, 2006
The State Government on Tuesday introduced a Bill in the State Assembly amending the AP Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act, 1977. The amendment empowers the Government to notify certain areas where the assigned lands in possession of other than the beneficiaries can be resumed and utilized for weaker sections’ housing, public utilities and infrastructure development or for any other public issue. The amendment also proposed that in the areas other than those notified, the land can be restored to the original assignee or to other eligible persons.
The Revenue Minister, Dharmana Prasada Rao introducing the bill said that because of rapid urbanization of places like Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Rangareddy districts, most of the assigned lands had been alienated by the original assignees and the lands were converted into non-agricultural lands.
