Hyderabad, December 18, 2006

The Government has turned down the Opposition’s demand for the resignation and prosecution of the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy for having admitted to holding assigned lands in the Assembly on Monday as thee was no such provisions in the laws. The Assembly on Monday witnessed acrimonious exchanges and slogan shouting for the third consecutive day on the issue of the surrender of assigned lands by the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister intervening during the debate has admitted that his family owned company holding another chunk of over 900 acres of non-agriculture land in Konduru in Kadapa district.

The opposition demand for constituting an all-party commit to visit Idupulapaya in Kadapa fell through. The Chief Minister Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy agreed to dispatch a two member semi-official committee to survey his and other lands in Idupulapaya in Kadapa district in a week’s time. He said it could comprise either of the two senior IAS officers SV Prasad, Raghottam Rao and M. Samabasiva Rao (a former IAS officer) who is President of Heritage Foods owned by N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Chandrababu Naidu charged the Chief Minister was guilty of violating seven laws besides changing the extent of his land holding frequently and his statements. He charged that he has no right to continue as that he has violated the Constitutional oath he has taken. The Chief Minister said that there was no provision for prosecution if the land was surrendered in good faith.
