Marketing Minister refutes charge on cotton MSP

Government initiated steps to see that CCI procures damaged crop

Hyderabad, December 12, 2006

The Minister for Marketing B. Satyanarayana has refuted the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) charge that the Government is adopting a discriminatory approach towards cotton farmers by not providing them minimum support price (MSP). On Tuesday, speaking at a press conference, the Minister termed the TDP charge as false and said the party was trying to gain political mileage by creating apprehensions among the cotton farmers.

He said that the Government had ensured MSP ranging from Rs. 1990 to Rs. 2020 for different varieties of cotton and initiated steps to see that Cotton Corporation of India procured even the crop that was damaged in floods.
