Urges Centre to rush a team of experts to assess the loss
Hyderabad, August 8, 2006
The Union Minister for Mines, T.Subbarami Reddy on Tuesday appealed the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to release Rs. 500 crores to the Andhra Pradesh State Government for relief and rehabilitation works to the flood affected areas.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, he urged the Centre to immediately send a team of experts to the State to assess the damage caused to the crops, houses and roads. 94 lives have been lost and lakhs of people rendered homeless in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East and West Godavari in addition to Nizamabad, Khammam, and Karimnagar districts.
He said that that floods was not only due to heavy rains but also due to the heavy inflow of floods from the neighboring States of Maharastra and Karnataka. He stated that the State Government had launched massive rescue and relief operations for the flood affected people.
