Hyderabad, August 8, 2006

The Central Government on Tuesday released Rs. 270 crore to the State for flood relief. The first installment of Central Share of Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) amounting to Rs. 135.48 crore has already been released to the State Government for relief and rehabilitation operations in the flood affected areas in the State.

The Centre has provided eight helicopters which have been deployed in Khammam, East and West Godavari districts. Seven naval divers teams with Gemini boats are deployed at Bhadrchalam, Amalapuram and Polavaram, said in a press release.

Congress President Ms. Sonia Gandhi will be visiting the flood affected areas in the State on Wednesday. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh is monitoring the flood situation in the State.
