State Election Commission clarifies where elections to be held
Hyderabad, August 7, 2006
The State Election Commission has made it clear that flood relief and rehabilitation work in the gram panchayats where the elections have been postponed would not be hit due to model code of conduct in force. The SEC Commissioner AVS Reddy and Secretary GN Rao said in a press conference that the code in force all over the State since the Panchayat Raj elections was lifted on Monday in villages where elections were concluded but in force in postponed areas.
The Commissioner said that even if the code is in force, the Collectors can go ahead and undertake relief operations to provide relief to the affected families. The Commissioner said fresh elections in the rain hit 24 gram panchayats in Medak district and 11 in Guntur would be held on August 9 while elections to 239 panchayats in East Godavari and eight in West Godavari and five in Srikakulam would be held on August 10.
