Actual loss will come up in a couple of days
Hyderabad, August 6, 2006
The Minister for Agriculture N.Raghuveera Reddy speaking at a press conference on Sunday said that the crops in over 2.5 laks were submerged due to heavy rains according to preliminary information. He said that mainly nurseries and hoticulture crops in over 8000 acres were damaged. He, however said that clear picture of actual loss will be available in a couple of days.
He said that the State Government has issued instructions for release of seedlings with 75 per cent subsidy to the affected farmes to enable them to take up re-sowing operations. Mr.Reddy said that 1.46 lakh quintals of seed was availalble in all the districtsand would be distributed at subsidy wherever nurseries were damaged.
The Minister said that he will lead a three member State delegation to an international convention of agricultural economists organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at Brisbane in Australia from August 12 to 18. He said that nearly 800 delegates from 100 countries would participate inthe convention.
