The highest rainfall of 190mm recorded in Koyyuru

Torrential rain claimed atleast 15 persons in Visakhapatnam district while seven others were severely injured in separate rain-related incidents. The death toll was highest in Kodipunjuvalasa village of Araku Valley where 10 persons are missing. Efforts are on to trace them. It is reported that the toll is likely to go up.
Two persons were washed away in Thandav River at KD Peta village of Golugonda mandal. A bridge on Pallagedda at Lankapaka village near Sileu collapsed. According to information received, two other bridges caved in the agency areas of the district. The district received an average rainfall of 135.5 mm while Koyyuru mandal recorded 190 mm rainfall.
The hydel power station of APGenco at Jolaputtu in Munchigput mandal was shut down as the flood waters entered in the generator rooms. Four fishing boats with seven fishermen in each boat have drifted off 'Visakhapatnam and Kalingapatnam coasts due to engine failure and about 40 fishing boats anchored at Itchapuram had technical snags due o gales. Coast Guard ships were sent to search and for rescue the stranded boats.
