New amendment gives good relief to senior citizens
Hyderabad, August 30, 2006
After a prolonged issue, the code of Criminal Procedure (AP Amendment) Bill 2006 gave right to the old and infirm parents who are unable to support themselves to claim maintenance from their earning children.
The Assembly unanimously adopted amendments to Sections 126 and 128 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. Hitherto, only wives and children had been eligible to claim maintenance. With the new bill, parents and illegitimate children can now initiate proceedings under Section 125 of CrPC for maintenance in place where they reside.
