Hyderabad, August 28, 2006

The Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday said in the Assembly that a package of Rs.16,000 sought by the Government on the lines of the aid given to Vidarbha for the 16 districts in the State that witnessed maximum number of suicides. He said cloud seed operations will be launched in the drought affected districts of the State on September 7, 2006.

During a debate on the drought conditions in the State, the Chief Minister said that each of the district will get Rs.1,000 crore with which the interest on loans availed by farmers will be waived and fresh crop loans would be released in addition to imposing a three year moratorium on the old loans. He said that the districts which are disposed in all three regions of the State include nine in Telangana, three in Coastal Andhra and four in Rayalaseema.

According to him, the package will encourage seed replacement to increase productivity and milch cattle will be given to the farmers in these districts and also encourage the farmers to go in for drip irrigation in about 20 lakh acres development of number of minor irrigation tanks to impound more water.
