Threat of heavy rain coastal Andhra subsides
Hyderabad, August 23, 2006
Under the influence in low pressure area on Wednesday, rain lashed parts of Srikakulam district and the adjoining areas of Orissa. The Vamsadara and Nagavali rivers that flow on either side of Srikakulam town rose again slightly following heavy inflows. Some low lying areas were inundated.
Further threat of heavy rain to the North Coastal Andhra however subsided as the low pressure area moved over to West Bengal without intensifying into a depression. According to a forecast, light to moderate rains is likely at a few places in the State on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Godavari and Krishna are flowing below their first warning signal throughout their course in the State. The inflows reaching Srisailam tumbled to 3 lakh curses and similarly the outflow of the Godavari from Dowleswram fell to four lakh curses.
