Kith and kin of victims gets Rs.2.5 lakhs ex gratia
Hyderabad, August 21, 2006
The Chief Minister Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday said that an additional Rs.1 lakh as compensation to those killed in the recent floods in the State. The kin of the dead due to floods will receive a total compensation of Rs.2.5 lakhs.
The Chief Minister, while replying a debate in the Assembly on the floods in which 131 people were died and more than 2.12 lakh hectares of agriculture and horticulture crops were damaged. Already, the victims' kin are eligible for Rs.50,000 under the Apath Bandhu and another Rs.1 lakh from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
He said that it was only the second time that such a great calamity occurred in the last 53 years and the Chief Minister lauded the efforts of the Health Department for preventing outbreak of epidemics A team of officials from the National Rural Health Mission had declared that no other State had done so well in the post flood prevention of epidemics.
