Government will continue reforms in PSUs

Hyderabad, August 14, 2006

The controversial GO NO.5 which was kept in abeyance was finally withdrawn by the State Government and issued a fresh GO No.Ms.7. The one month long controversial GO No.5which envisaged restructuring of state owned Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) has been rescinded with immediate effect. The Chief Minister, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy held meeting with the Chief Secretary, Minister for Home and other top officials have finally climbed down to withdraw the GO.

It may be recalled that on July 18, GO drew flak for plans to retrench 64,000 employees in Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited. Even though the Government on August 2 kept the same in abeyance until a fresh GO is issued, he wrote an open letter that to the PSUs that no employee will be retrenched.

The Legislative Affairs Minister, K.Rosaiah after the meeting said that the decision to withdraw the GO has been taken to clear off the doubts in the minds of the employees and apprehensions in some quarters. He further said that the Government is committed for the welfare of the employees. He said that the Government has revived many loss making units and even stood guarantee to the loans availed from various institutions for revival of the units.
