No heart burn among small farmers on account of acquisition of land
Hyderabad, August 13, 2006The Chief Minister Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy reviewed the land acquisition and compensation issues with the Chief Secretary and other top officials on Sunday. He asked them that the land acquisition process to be more transparent and a role model to other States. He directed the officials to work out for a better compensation package for people whose lands were being acquired and there should not be any heart burn to the farmers who lost their lands.
According to an official press release issued, the Government has noted that land prices had increased abnormally and as a measure of equity, it was examining the possibility of allotment of developed sites to farmers whose land would be acquired in addition to the compensation. The Chief Minister felt that no economic development could be achieved without acquiring land and at the same time the poor and middle classes should not be put to loss.
Hyderabad Urban Development Authority Chairman D.Sudhir Reddy at a meeting organized by a private TV Channel said that the Government would come up with a policy soon on land acquitting for various projects in a couple of days. The meeting organized to discuss the land acquisition process, saw strident criticism by non Congress parties that the Government had messed up the exercise. The Government Chief Whip N.Kiran Kumar Reddy said the decision sell land as the Government received the mandate of the Assembly in this year's budget presentation. He assured that early settlement without any delay would solve their problems.
