Social audit programme to help villagers

Hyderabad, August 12, 2006

The Telugu website and the social audit system to backup the rural employment guarantee programme would be launched on Monday. The Minister for Rural Development, D.Srinivas said to media on Saturday that the Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh would participate in the function.

The website would contain information pertaining to each gram panchayat about the job cards issued, works sanctioned, wages paid and other relevant information. He said that a training programme was proposed to the newly elected sarpanches to tune them to the scheme in all the 13 districts where it is implemented.

As fare as Indira Prabha scheme is concerned, in nine districts where the employment guarantee programme was not working, the Minister said that the Government was vigorously pursuing the India Prabha Scheme to develop lands assigned to SCs, STs and BCs. The Central Government sanctioned 20 new projects under the Integrated Wasteland Development Programme this year to treat 1.21 hectares.
