State Government move to push up land prices

Existing charges were fixed way back in 1996

Hyderabad, August 11, 2006

A decision that might further push up the prices of lands and the State Government is under proposal with the amendment to the Section 27 of the AP Urban Areas Development Act, 1975. This facilitates a hike in development charges for both buildings and lands in the limits of urban development authorities.

According to an official release, the Municipal Administration Secretary SP Singh said that the hike was becoming necessary as the existing charges were fixed in 1996. He said that during the last one decade the value of the land has increased considerably due to rapid urbanization and cost of provision of infrastructure too has gone up.

In most of the UDAs, the land value has appreciated more than 10 times. As the UDAs has to implement infrastructure projects like formation of master plan roads, link roads, development of city level parks and fly overs, it has become inevitable to enhance their income. A bill to this effect will be tabled in the coming monsoon session of the Assembly.
