The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh undertook an aerial survey for four hours in the flood affected areas of Adilabad and Nanded regions. The officials made a Powerpoint presentation on the flood situation in the State. Mr. Singh was deeply moved by the plight of the flood victims and the extensive damage caused.
Speaking to reporters after a review meeting on the flood situation with the Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy and other top officials, Mr. Singh announced an immediate release of aid of Rs. 200 crore aid from the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF). He said that this was in addition to the Rs. 200 crore being released as the share of the state under Calamity Relief Fund which was announced a couple of days.
The Prime Minister also announced that Rs. 1 lakh would be given to the kith and kin of the from the Prime Minister's relief Fund to each of the nearly 110 victims who lost their lives due to floods and heavy rains. He also announced that a Central team would visit the State to assess the damage and provide further assistance and assured all necessary help that the State requires. The Chief Minister said that the losses were around Rs.1014 crore according to preliminary reports.
