Police reject plea to allow Assembly staff through Gate No.1

Hyderabad, August 10, 2006

The plea of State Assembly Secretary for allowing Assembly employees through Gate No.1 during the forthcoming monsoon session was turned down by the police officials. At a review meeting on security which was chaired by the Speaker K.Suresh Reddy on the eve of the session, Police Commissioner AK Mohanty is understood to have point out that the Gate No.1 is meant for VVIP entry only.

He said that while all the police officials on duty would be having a separate pass, the Assembly staff should also enter the premises with valid passes. Even, the Speaker also turned down the plea and directed the officials to issue separate passes to the Assembly staff.

On the Personal Security Officers (PSOs) of the VIPs, the police officials said the PSOs would not be allowed to loiter around the premises. Other issues were discussed pertaining to barricading the premises, parking of vehicles and heightened vigilance.
