Raghavulu tells Congress to scrap GO 5

Says only Rs. 15 Crores is earmarked for VRS

Adilabad, August 1, 2006

State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) BV Raghavulu told the Congress-led State Government to scrap the Government Order 5 which is against the working class community of the state.

Speaking with the press community, Raghavulu said that the GO5 is exposing the weakness and inefficiency of the Government. On the funds earmarked for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), he said that only Rs. 15 crores is earmarked while what is actually required is in the tune of Rs. 1200 crores if the Government is on its plans to downsize 30 public enterprises.

Raghavulu felt that the Government is making its moves to privatize the Andhra Pradesh State Transport Corporation (APSRTC) during 2006-07 by scrapping 34,784 employees. Singareni Collaries Company Limited (SCCL) would be the next biggest target which would become private the next year.
