Hyderabad, April 8, 2006Hyderabad, along-side Goa will be hosting the World Military Games for 2007. The games will be held during October 14-17, 2007. Hyderabad will be the venue for sports in 13 disciplines and Goa will be the venue for Sailing and Triathlon. Over 6,000 participants are expected to compete in various sporting disciplines. President of International Military Sports Council (French acronym - CISM) Brig. Gen. Dr. Gianni Gola (Italy) announced this at a press conference held in Hyderabad. Chief of Staff, Southern Command of the Indian Army Lt. Gen. Ashok Kapur and President, SSCB Maj. Gen. Ahluwalia, Chairman and Vice-Chairman - Managing Director of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) were also present at the conference.
The Military Sports Council has 127 member countries and the first games were held in 1995 at Rome. Zagreb was the host for the second edition of the games held in 1999 and Catania, Italy was the venue for the third edition of the games held in 2003. Andhra Pradesh is emerging as the biggest sporting location in the country. The sporting face of Hyderabad changed with the upgradation of various facilities for the Afro-Asian Games in 2003. With successful condition of the international sports and games on one side and having the best of sporting infrastructure, more and more international sporting event managers are considering Hyderabad as their preferred destination.
