Software could recognize faces even from disfigured or burnt bodies
Hyderabad, April 7, 2006The Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) has developed a real time face recognition software to create sketches of wanted criminals. By using the software, forensic experts can create a three dimensional image of the suspect even if the available photograph is blurred or details are sketchy. APFSL experts were able to reproduce the face of the Task Fore suicide bomber with the help of the software.
APFSL Director KPC Gandhi said by using the real-time software, they can create an apt image and reproduce faces even from disfigured or burnt bodies. The software will help create a moving video from a still photograph. He further said, if a suspect enters a VIP area, for instance, the software would immediately alert the security staff. Meanwhile, the science and technology department of the Centre has sanctioned Rs.80 lakhs to the APFSL to improve the crime scene reconstruction software.
