L & T ship building unit likely at Kakinada

L & T keen on infrastructure projects

Hyderabad, April 6, 2006

L & T Chairman AM Naik along with a team of his officials met the Chief Minister on Thursday and discussed its proposed infrastructure projects, including the shipbuilding unit. He asked the Government’s help in identifying the location, land and other infrastructure for the project. The Chief Minister asked the L & T officials to come out a detailed report to enable the Government to examine the issue of offering land and other concessions.

L & T has evinced interest in taking up certain infrastructure projects including shipbuilding. The Chairman later discussed the issues with the officials of the investment corporation. The officials reportedly suggested Kakinada as the ideal location for the unit and the government was anyway planning to develop the stretch between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam as an industrial corridor.
