Mahabubnagar, April 3, 2006A site engineer of a company executing Kalwakurthy lift irrigation works and an upa sarpanch were arrested on Sunday when they were trying to hand over Rs.50 lakhs extortion money to Maoists in Narlapur forests near Kollapur of the district.
The police were combing the forest area on a tip off that the contractors men were trying to hand over the cash to Maoists. On seeing the police, the Maoists who had gathered to receive money fled the scene.
