Sri Lanka business gives good results

Hyderabad, April 28, 2006

Aviva reported a 26 per cent rise in business sales across its global operations in the first quarter. In a statement, Aviva said that the total sales from operations in Asia were up by 65 per cent to $175 million from $97 million in 2005. The total sales from Aviva's joint venture with Dabur Group in India increased in the first quarter of 2006 to $105 million from $35 million in 2005. This paved a way for it to be ranked as the seventh biggest private insurer in the country.

Aviva's life sales in Sri Lanka was at $4 million after it acquired a 51 per cent stake in Eagle Insurance Company Limited, the third largest insurer in that country, the statement added.
