Says Centre is keen on upgrading Engineering Colleges
Adilabad, April 26, 2006
The Chief Minister, Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy has ruled out on Wednesday of the possibility of setting up an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Basara, as the Central Government has yet to take a decision on this issue. Speaking a press conference, he said that the Birla Institute of Technological Sciences (BITS) has not shown any interest to set up their new branch at Basara. He said that the Government would welcome anyone who sets up an institute of excellence like IIT at Basara.
The State Government would set up post-graduation centre, if there were no takers, he said. The Central Government has decided to upgrade the Regional Engineering College (REC) and also other reputed engineering colleges to IIT standards instead of setting up new IITs in the country.
