Residency system introduced for Medicos

Medical PG students have to invariably stay in hospital premises

Hyderabad, April 17, 2006

The State Cabinet has decided to introduce residency system in all Government medical colleges on Monday. This will make it mandatory for the Medial PG Students to stay in the hospital premises and render round the clock medical care to patients. This new system will be introduced in all the ten medical colleges in the State.

Under this system, the medical students will have to stay in the premises of the medical colleges and pursue studies under the senior professors and simultaneously give medical care to the people. The Cabinet has decided to create 600 posts of senior residents. Hostels will be constructed for them in the medical colleges. The information minister said that this would give quality of education and patient care.
