Hyderabad, April 12, 2006

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai was impressed at the concept of the Self Helping Groups (SHG) model implemented in the state. He along with a delegation visited the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) at Rajendranagar. The team visited the products of SHG exhibited. He asked the officials of NIRD to setup a similar Institute in his country. The team also visited the Rural Technology Park (RTP) and interacted with members there.

President Karzai also interacted with the students of the Osmania University. He said that meeting with the students community remind him of his college days. Karzai studied at the Simha University for some time. On being introduced to the students, Karzai was referred as 58 years old for which he interrupted and said that he is 48 years ago and still young. Students queued up to take autograph of the President.
