Government gets nod for demolition of unauthorized fish tanks
Eluru - East Godavari, April 10, 2006
Following the Supreme Court's clearance to go ahead to 'Operation Kolleru' from April 20, the West Godavari district administration is making arrangements to take up demolition of unauthorized fish tanks. The Apex Court on Monday issued directions to the Government to continue the demolition of unauthorized fish tanks, especially in the fifth contour area.
The Court also issued directions to keep a tab on transportation of fish seed and feed to these tanks. The leaseholders of several tanks can net their fish until April 20 before the tanks are demolished. The administration is planning to go ahead in a systematic manner by mobilizing blasting equipment, machinery and manpower for carrying out the demolition drive. Kolleru Special Officer N.Muktheswara Rao told pressmen that they had planned to complete the clean up operation in 45 days. He said no villager would be displaced in the drive and the district administration is making alternative sources of livelihood to the villagers.
