An electric fence powered by solar energy is being erected around the perimeter of the 22-acre Secretariat campus in the light of the increasing security risks especially from the extremists. The extra security layer was conceived since the number of policemen posted in the Secretariat was considered insufficient to ward off any attacks. The electric fence would provide some relief to the personnel at nights when only 25 men are present. The new security plan approved by the Cabinet and entrusted to the ECIL for execution and the fence will be ready in three months. Under this plan all those entering the Secretariat including Ministers and officials and employees will be allowed inside through an electronic Access Control System at the main gate. VIP vehicles will be fitted with electronic sensors which will be recognized at the entry point and clear the decks for their entry.
