A division bench of the High Court on Tuesday suggested that agitating workers withdraw their indefinite strike so that a new court appointed committee can look into the issues raised by the dispassionately.
The Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Bilal Nazki and Justice G. Chandraiah was dealing with two-writ petitions complaining that the Government had failed to take steps to stop the strike and provide relief to the general public. The Indian Young Lawyers Forum filed these writs separately. The Bench said the proposed committee might have five members, including two representatives each of the unions and the Government and one nominated by the Court.
At a press conference on Tuesday, the JAC leaders said they were only demanding that the Government stand guarantee and put it down in writing for about Rs.800 crores taken as loans by the corporation from the financial institutions. They refused to accept the Government’s contention that it has already sanctioned an interim package for the corporation nearly Rs.600 crores. The State councils of CPI and AIYF have expressed displeasure at the High Court’s decision on the strike by the APSRTC employees.
