The APSRTC bus services were completely paralyzed all over the State causing untold misery to passengers as the indefinite strike called by the employees began on Monday.

In Medak, Nalgonda and Warangal districts, the strike was total with virtually every bus remaining inside the depots. Bus stations across the State wore a deserted look. Due to the strike by RTC employees, drivers of auto rickshaws, taxies and lorries demanded high fare. In the State Capital, the number of Multi Modal Transit System trains was augmented to cater to the increased demand.

The Cabinet sub committee in a press conference appealed the JAC to withdraw the strike. In Visakhapatnam, the strike by RTC employees was total. Normal life was hit as the buses were off the road. The District Collector, Praveen Prakash who reviewed the situation instructed the RTC authorities to operate more buses.

The Joint Action Committee of employees, teachers and workers has threatened to take to agitation if the Government did not make the recommendations of the Pay Revision Commission before July 15. The Executive Committee of the JAC decided to meet on July 21 to chalk out the program.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the JAC Chairman, BV Subbarao and other office bearers criticized the Government for not taking the committee into confidence by explaining the salient features of the recommendations made by Pay Revision Commissioner, J.Rambabu. They expressed their solidarity to the APSRTC strike and said that the Government should take immediate steps to concede the justified demands.

In an unexpected move five Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Ministers from the YS.Rajasekhara Reddy Government on Monday. This brings an end to the twelve-month-old coalition with the Congress in Andhra Pradesh.

Without giving information to the Chief Minister, G.Vijayaramarao, T.Harishrao, A.Chandrasekhar, V.Laksmikanthrao submitted their resignation while N.Narasimhareddy faxed his resignation from Detroit, US where he is participating in a meeting hosted by the TANA. They submitted their resignations to the Governor and he reserved his decision awaiting the Chief Minister’s opinion. Senior leader Santosh Reddy who however refused to quit the Cabinet. He commented that before asking the Ministers to resign, he should have to quit as Union Minister.

The withdrawal of 26 MLAs is unlikely to affect the stability of the Government, as Congress is enjoys a majority of 185 in the 294 members Assembly. The Chief Minister who had gone to the Governor to brief his three-nation trip said he would convey his decision soon. After resigning from the Government, the TRS ministers declared that they would take to the path of agitation to secure Statehood for Telangana. They told the reporters at the Raj Bhavan after submitting their resignations to the Governor that they would intensify the movement for separate Telangana.

The Telugu Desam Party on Monday reacting the resignations of the TRS Ministers termed it as a political drama aimed at covering up its own failures. Meanwhile, the Congress MLAs from Telangana demanded the Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and the party high command to accept the resignations submitted by the TRS Ministers.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President, N.Chandrababu Naidu has described that the move to form Greater Hyderabad and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation as a strategy to postpone elections to them.

The process for the formation of the two grater municipalities will take time and elections will not be held to them with the other civic bodies according to him.

Speaking with the party men after a three-day tour on Sunday, he said no proposals had been discussed for the formation and not even an all-party meeting held to discuss it after Congress came to power.
