Volkswagen to send special envoy

The Volkswagen AG wrote a letter directly to the Chief Minister, YS.Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday conveying its decision to send its special envoy Frank Elbe.
An official of Volkswagen suggested that the State Government received Mr. Elbe before the proposed visit by the Government's delegation to the company in Germany. The official told that the Chief Minister that the Volkswagen project was only temporally put on hold and acknowledged that the former Skoda board member Helmuth Schuster had aced without authority.

FAPCCI extends nomination dates

The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry has extended the last date for receipt of nominations for the FAPCCI Awards 2004-05 till August 1.
A press release said that a brochure with guidelines, details and questionnaires on awards was available at the federation's office for Rs.100. It can be downloaded from the website, fapcci.com and the cost of application paid at the time of submission.

The Government has posted GN Phani Kumar who is awaiting posting as the Additional Chief Electoral Officer, General Administration in place of V.Anil Kumar. Mr.Anil Kumar has been posted as Joint Collector, Hyderabad in the existing vacancy according to an official release.

APSRTC employees' talks fail – Prepared for strike yet again

The talks between the Cabinet sub committee on APSRTC and the Joint Action Committee of trade unions on Tuesday evening failed resulting the unions to go on strike.
The Sub-committee sought another two months time for conducting another study by the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore but the unions rejected the proposal. The JAC sought the Government for immediate release of Rs.300 crores to help the Corporation to pay July salaries to employees towards interim relief and for operational expenses. They demanded a written guarantee from the Government for the Rs.1350 crores of loans and exemption of RTC personnel from professional tax.
The committee appraised the situation to the Chief Minister who turned down their demands. The JAC leaders said that on Wednesday, they would appraise the High Court of the situation and on the evening they will review the situation and take an agitation plan.

55 medical teams will be deputed to agency areas

Nearly fifty-five special medical teams have been constituted to visit every household in the 11 mandals of Paderu Division to tackle the problem of malaria and other fevers in the agency areas of the district according to Health Minister, K.Rosaiah.
He spoke to the press after visiting a special medical camp at Lothugedda junction. He said the teams would conduct surveys, educate Girijans on the proper use of drugs and refer them to the nearest health camp or to the KGH for treatment. Health cards have been issued to all the house holds in the agency to keep track of the diseases and the course of medication and he said that the Government was distributing 20kg of rice to each of the affected families and free food to the patients undergoing treatment and their attendants at the dispensaries and PHCs.
Over two lakh mosquito nets have been ordered and would be distributed to the tribals. He further said that 650 doctors have joined and so far the remaining vacancies would be filled soon. Apart from 1200 para medical staff would also join soon.

1100 died of fever claims Girijan Sangham

The Andhra Pradesh Girijan Sangham headed by M.Babu Rao, MP has claimed that 1100 Girijans have died in the agency areas of Visakhapatnam district due to various fevers. In a memorandum submitted to the national Human Rights Commission, he said seventy thousand Girijans were battling with death because of non-availability of medicines.
It alleged that the Government was negligent in extending health facilities to the affected persons even after mobile teams of doctors issued caution. People in the mandals of Araku, Anantagiri, Hukumpeta, Chintapalli, Paderu, Pedabayalu, G. Madugula, and Munchingputta among others were serious affected. According to memorandum, the treatment facilities were inadequate as there was shortage of doctors and medical staff.

Trains cancelled due to wash away of tracks

Several trains were cancelled on Tuesday and some other partially cancelled or diverted after the track was washed away between Pergaon and Manwat Road stations on the Parbhani-Manmad section of Nanded division according to an SCR press release.
