Congress begins its winning spree in Municipal elections – Wins Chirala 11th Ward

The Congress has won the 11th ward Chirala unanimously as no other candidate has filed nomination when the filing of nominations closed on Monday. S. Nirmala of the Congress is the only candidate who has filed her nomination to contest from the ward. In Chirala Municipality, 263 nominations were filed for all the other wards while in Markapur the total number of nominations filed was 204. The Congress has been able to reach an understanding with the left parties by allotting two wards to the CPI and one ward to the CPI (M) in Markapur.

In a major break through the Medak police have busted a 13 member inter district gang involved in printing and circulating high denomination fake currency and confiscated fake notes with a face value of Rs. 81 lakhs and laser printers and other equipment valued at almost Rs. One crore. The Nizamabad range DIG Anjani Kumar, told press persons on Monday that the main accused and gang leaders, SL Rangaiah a resident of Kamlanagar of Kurnool had been printing and circulating fake currency in Rs. 500, 100 and 50 denominations through agents in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Tenali, Warangal, Nizamabad and Cyberabad.

Virasam leaders Varavararao and Kalyan Rao were produced before Junior Civil Judge K. Chiranjeevulu on Monday. The two are accused in the March 11 Chilakaluripet police station attack case by naxals. The two were remanded in judicial custody till September 19. Kalyan Rao and Varavararao were brought to the town around midnight from Chanchalaguda jail to be produced in court and kept in the town police station till they were taken to court. The leaders appealed the court exemption from personal appearance as their health was not good and are subjected to move from one court to another due to several cases filed by the police.
