A day ahead of the Central team's visit to the State, the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy toured the flood hit areas of the East and West Godavari districts on Sunday and said that he would write to the Centre seeking crop insurance with village as the unit. He said that the present crop insurance scheme with mandal as the unit was hardly beneficial to farmers. Speaking to press persons at the Gannavaram airport, he said the Government would seriously consider increasing the compensation to flood hit farmers by 25 percent. At a review meeting at Rajahmundry, he asked the officials of East, West Godavari, Khammam and other flood affected districts to prepare a master plan to tackle the flood situation. He spoke to the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil and the Agriculture Minister, Shard Pawar in this regard.

TDP president N. Chandra Babu Naidu also under took a tour of Khammam district. Interacting with the victims, he blamed the Government for not taking enough steps to mitigate their suffering. APCC president K. Keshavarao visited the flood affected areas in Khammam town and Yellandu.

AICC President Sonia Gandhi will visit flood hit areas in West Godavari and Krishna districts on Tuesday. An eight member Central Team of senior officials will arrive in the city on Monday to tour the flood affected districts. The team is lead by the Joint Secretary (Home affairs) Navin Verma. The State Government had estimated the total damage to crops and property at Rs. 1800 crores.

The State Election Commissioner, AVS Reddy on Sunday asked Kadapa Collector, G. Ashok Kumar to send a factual report on the polling process in the Pulivendula Municipality. He said that the counting process in the municipality would not be postponed just because a complaint was lodged with the SEC.

He said, the Commission has received a complaint from the TDP alleging that the Congress had vitiated the election process in Pulivendula by threatening TDP leaders and candidates and said that any action could be taken only by the Election Tribunal and not the SEC.

Peddapuram Congress MLA Thota Gopalakrishna has sent his resignation to the Chief Minister on Sunday night protesting against the alleged police lathe charge on him and his supporters. In his letter, he said he had already announced that if re poll was held even in one ward, he would resign. That had happened and there was violence too. Earlier in the day, the MLA's gunman had to open fire to disperse a mob which allegedly tried to attack him during the re poll in the Samarlakot Municipality.
