The AP State Government has warned the APSRTC employees that it will invoke provisions of the ESMA if they prevent loyal staff from attending duties or destroying properties. The Transport Minister, K.Laxminarayana said on Monday that the union leaders would be arrested under ESMA if they prevent workers against attending work. Speaking with the press after a video conference with Collectors and Superintendents of Police, the Minister said the door was closed for further talks with the employees. APSRTC Managing Director MVKrishna Rao who was also present said that the Management is ready for talks if the union leaders come. Under contingency plan, nearly20000 drivers would be recruited by October 16 besides many conductors. All type of private vehicles, including vans and seven seaters, would be hired. The police resorted to lathi charge and opened fire into air to disperse a mob that went berserk at Bhavanipet village in Bodhan mandal resulting in injuring eight policemen on Monday afternoon. According to information, the situation at Bhavanipet was tense, but under control. Additional police forces were deployed in the village and a police picket was posted. The trouble began when a large number of residents of Ghanpur village descended on Bhavanipet learning that one Linga Boyee belonging to their village working as a paleru at P.Srinivasarao’s home. Alleging that Srinivasarao himself killed Boyee, they beat up the former and forcibly took him to his agriculture field threatening to kill him. On being informed, the police arrived at the spot. The Circle Inspector said that the police opened fire into the air when the villagers tried to bun the house of Srinivasarao. The State Government has signed a MoU with Naandi Foundation, an NGO implementing mid day meals scheme in Hyderabad and other places to implement new scheme ensuring children to learn. The scheme aims at enrolling atleast five lakh children in 455 specified schools in the State in two years and improving the literacy standards. . The Naandi Foundation has been selected for this public private initiative as the NGO is already working for universalisation of education under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan programme and is successfully implementing mid day meal scheme in Hyderabad running massive and fully mechanized kitchen. The Andhra Pradesh Press Academy intends to revive its website and upload about 16 lakh pages of old newspapers and periodicals that have already been digitized. Academy chairman D.Amar said at a press conference on Monday that the academy has secured these old newspapers and periodicals dating back to last 100 years from reputed libraries in Vetapalem and Rajahmundry besides the State Achieves.
