Acqa farmers and local people staged a rasta rook and threatened to commit mass suicide if their tanks were cut at Kovvada lanka in Krishna district on Tuesday. They stopped vehicles carrying labourers and obstructed ‘Operation Kolleru’ for nearly four hours. Members of SC societies put up resistance arguing with the officials that their tanks did not obstruct the flow of flood water in the drains but they wanted the administration not to cut the tanks.
The administration managed to breach only two to three fish tanks. The total number of tank breaches till Monday were 146. Tension prevailed in the village through out the morning. By afternoon, the farmers relented and the officials went ahead with the breaching operations.
The administration drew plans to cut about 100 tanks which were not touched till now at Juvvukanuma.
