The Government has given clearance for sowing a record area of 39 lakh acres during the Rabi season. This is in the light of almost all the reservoirs in the State being filled for the first time. Paddy will be allowed in this entire ayacut, except under the command areas of Nagarjunasagar Right and Left bank canals where the choice has been restricted to irrigated dry crops like cotton and sunflower.
This was announced at a press conference on Monday by the Minister for Major Irrigation P.Laxmaiah. He said this is the first time that 25000 acres was allowed for rabi under Telugu Ganga. He said the canals of the different projects for rabi season would be opened from December 1 to mid January.
