The Government has decided to celebrate the golden jubilee of Nagarjunasagar on December 10, the day when the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone for the project fifty years ago calling it a modern temple. Major Irrigation Minister P.Laxmaiah and the Principal Secretary CVSK Sarma announced on Wednesday hat the statues of Dr.KL Rao, the statesman who designed the project, Mir Jaffer Ali Baig who served the project as its Chief Engineer during the critical period of construction for eight years would be installed at the project site.
The Minister said a memorial would be raised at the project in memory of the numerous collies, technicians and engineers who died during the construction. He described the present Jala Yagnam as an embodiment of inspiration drawn from Nagarjunasagar which converted the State into a rice bowl.
