The Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy has instructed the officials to see that there was no let up in the on going drive to remove encroachments in the Kolleru lake area. At a meeting with the senior officials, he said the feedback from people living in the area around the lake to the drive was positive. He cautioned that stern action would be taken on any official who was found to be lenient towards encroachers.
A high light of the meeting was said to be a report submitted by Additional DGP (Intelligence) K.Aravindarao listing out the names of the prominent people possessing large extent of illegal fishponds in Kolleru lake area since quite a long time.
The list included the names of prominent leaders of Congress and TDP in addition to businessmen. The report revealed that about 19000 acres of land had been encroached by 26 persons. The largest extent of 6000 acres was under the possession of a businessman.
