Domestic oil companies have the potential to go global while integrating their operations within the entire hydrocarbon value chain, according to Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary SC Tripathi.
Speaking at the inaugural of the 13th Refinery Technology Meet, he said the refineries were faced with the challenge of integrating the entire hydrocarbon value chain while being cost effective in the changing energy scene. He said that the country’s per capita energy consumption which was way below the global average was set to rise.
He said a study conducted in partnership with Shell was aimed at improving the efficiency of refineries by benchmarking oil companies with their counterparts elsewhere. Only two refineries met the criteria with better plant capacity utilization and this had to be extended to other plants. He told the press that three refineries were coming up at Bhatinda, Bina and Paradeep and efforts are underway to double the capacity of HPCL refinery to15 million tonnes in the near future.
