For the first time in the history of purchase of beedi leaves by the State Forest Development Corporation, the Government has announced bonus to the beedi leaves pluckers/collectors who are mostly tribals living in and around forests. Beedi leaf collection is made in Telangana districts during the season February to May.
The Corporation which entered the scene to avoid exploitation of tribals buys the leaves from them and sells the same to the contracts. Out of this years auctioning, the Government earned an income of Rs.7 crores in advance but it has decided to pass the entire revenue to the tribals as bonus as a welfare measure benefiting the poor..
